Replacing Missing Teeth

Dental Bridges for a Complete, Confident Smile

Dental Bridges can be used to replace one or more of your missing teeth. This can restore the appearance of your smile and improve the function of your bite.

Different types of Bridges include the following:

Conventional: Fixed to the adjacent teeth. These are supported by placing crowns on one, or both of your adjacent teeth, providing strength and durability.

Resin bonded: In certain cases it is possible to use a resin bonded bridge, which requires minimum preparation of the adjacent teeth or in some cases no preparation at all. They are held in place with metal wings that are fixed to the adjacent supporting teeth. The application of this treatment option is limited however and is generally only suitable for low stress bridges.

A Simple Two-Appointment Process

How Are Dental Bridges Made?

Generally, it takes two appointments to prepare and fit a bridge.

During the first appointment the adjacent teeth are prepared as required. An impression is taken of the area and the bridge is custom-made for you by a specialised lab technician according to the dentist’s instructions. In this first appointment we will also determine the right shade for your bridge and may fit a temporary bridge until your new one is ready.

At your second appointment, your dentist will remove the temporary bridge and fit the new one. Your dentist will ensure the fit is comfortable and that you are happy with the appearance.

Caring for Your Dental Bridge

How Do I Look After My Bridge?

You need to clean your bridge every day. Good oral hygiene practice such as brushing twice a day using fluoride toothpaste and flossing will help you keep the bridge clean and protect you from gum disease.

You also have to clean under the false tooth every day. If necessary your dentist or hygienist will show you how to use a bridge needle or special floss, as a normal toothbrush may not be able to reach.
